Pressure advance scorecard

Choose your file in the firmware menu (or type the values of a custom range), score each band on screen or on paper, and let the rule pick the value. How to judge each probe: pressure advance guide.

Write down too: firmware, nozzle, filament brand, type, colour, temperature, test speed (98 mm/s) and acceleration, date. A value without them is useless next month.

The columns follow the hex pinwheel model v1.3.0 (coarse and fine files are both in the firmware menu). 90° tips, 45° tip and Straights decide; Seam and 120° only confirm; Inside is shown but not counted (a concave corner is rounded by the bead width at any PA). Printed on A4: the rules on page 1, the whole grid on page 2.

How the best band is chosen

  1. Hold the tower with the engraved band numbers facing you. Score each band on its own, in its middle, away from the divider groove: ✓ pass, L fails because PA is too low (bulge, blob, filled corner), H fails because PA is too high (rounded, gap, slit), – cannot judge.
  2. Go up from band 1. A band qualifies when both 90° tips are ✓ and no counted probe is H. The Inside column is not counted: a concave corner is rounded by the bead width in every band, so do not judge PA there.
  3. Your value is the lowest band that qualifies. The 45° tip may still be L there: that is normal.
  4. Tie: if the band just above also qualifies and has at least as many ✓, take that higher band (when in doubt, lean higher).
  5. If the result is band 1 or the top band, the value may lie outside the range: print the other file of your firmware (coarse after fine, fine after coarse).
  6. Sanity check: L marks belong at the bottom (low PA) and H marks at the top. Marks scattered at random, or L and H on the same probe of one band, point to something else: see Troubleshooting.

Click a cell to cycle: blank → ✓ pass → L PA too low → H PA too high → – not scored. On paper, write the letter in the box. Band 1 is the bottom of the tower and is always PA 0.
